3592 - Let's Discuss Topics We Disagree On Four Week Course (Alice Huang)
Course Description
Instructor: Alice Huang
This course is for those who have already participated in any of the previous courses Alice Huang has led for OLLI and are familiar with the approach introduced in “How Can We Discuss Topics We Disagree On?”. These discussion workshops used to be packaged in series of four, but are now being offered as separate one-day courses, to make it more convenient for you to register for however many you wish to participate in, on whichever dates work for you. Each week, we will try to engage constructively on a different topic, to gain insights from those we disagree with, and to build our understanding and skills for having these conversations. Topics we’ve tackled in the past include questions related to current events, immigration, social services, and AI. (Send an email to suggest any topics you would especially like to discuss with people who disagree with you!)
BIO: Much of “what everyone’s talking about” these days seems to drive us apart, so we wind up more and more talking with only people we agree with. These workshops are my effort to create a setting in which more of us can talk with each other, and learn from each other, especially when we disagree. I come to this with a background in biomedical research, and experience designing and conducting workshops and leading discussion groups. I look forward to learning with you about topics we disagree on.
