3164 - Federal Acts and Legal Compliance
Course Description
This course examines some of the most significant federal statutes and legal cases relevant to human resource professionals. It also presents ethical and legal arguments to HR professionals for how proactive compliance can better support and protect their organizations. Human resource professionals must not only be able to identify federal and state law requirements, but also identify potential legal issues in their workplaces, assess what courses of legal action are possible, and know when to consult appropriate legal counsel.

Learner Outcomes
After this class, you will be able to:
- Explain an organization's responsibilities to comply with workers' compensation laws
- Describe the components of the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)
- Cite examples of when laws such as the ADA and FMLA intersect
- Identify aspects of employment deemed unlawful to discriminate under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA), and Executive Order 11246
- Cite legal decisions involving Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
