Course Description
Instructor: John Bayne
Verdi was the eminent Italian opera composer of the second half of the 19th century. His first success, Nabucco in 1842, stirred audiences with its chorus of exiled Hebrews in Babylonian captivity, "Va, pensiero." It became a patriotic anthem during the 20-year struggle for Italian unification, and remains so today. Other famous operas include Rigoletto, Il Trovatore, La Traviata, Aida, and Falstaff. In this Zoom class, we'll study most of Verdi's operas, using YouTube videos of great opera singers.
