2998 - Shakespeare: “It Needs Saying… Regularly.” Part 1 (Ross Friedman)
Course Description
Instructor Ross Friedman:
Incredibly, it’s been over four years since I’ve trod the boards of the OLLI stage. In this class we will read aloud and discuss in depth several speeches and scenes from over a half-dozen of Shakespeare’s plays. No play will be read in its entirety, but I’ll provide a plot understanding and context, and I’m sure you’ll come to class with a familiarity and opinions on most of the works. While no one will be required to read aloud, (and I will certainly take most of the best parts), scholar-participation will be desired and appreciated for many scenes. Assignments will be announced at least two weeks in advance, and I suppose we’ll start, as everything should, with “Hamlet.”
Bio: Ross taught high school English for 30 years, and from 1991-2006, when he retired, was the AP Literature teacher at Milton High School in Alpharetta. He took OLLI courses in 2007-2009 and, in the last few years, his band has played in about 50 gigs per year at retirement homes and church groups.
