Course Description

Instructor: Robin Bernat

In this series, we'll be watching (on our own time) Dissident, Absurdist and Assimilationist films. In each of the films in the series, filmmakers and screenwriters question the status quo or press against outdated societal norms or present outré characters taking on heroic roles in the mainstream. In other films, directors and screenwriters harness the tools and gloss of old Hollywood to present stories about anti-heroes. “New Hollywood” cinema ushered in an era of more experimental, less resolute filmmaking and marked the beginning of some of the most prominent American Filmmakers.
