Course Description

Experience Budapest and Prague from its Roman roots to now, as countries in the European community in art, design and architecture.  Central Europe is the meeting point of many different cultures and tradition - the beauty of art nouveau in both cities is noteworthy for their unique beauty in two and three dimensions.  Other European reactions to art nouveau will be discussed as a comparison such as the works of Mackintosh, Guimard, Horta, Gaudi and Hoffmann. .  The class continues with the cities’ Jewish cultural heritage, reactions to both WWI and WWII and concluded with current contemporary design.
