Painting as Process with Artist Jaffia Royes
Wednesdays, January 11 - February 15, 2023 - 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
This class will be conducted at the High Museum of Art - Greene Family Education Center
Engage with the tradition of painting at the High Museum of Art! Led by Teaching Artist, Jaffia Royes, participants will explore a variety of painting techniques such as underpainting, sgraffito, and glazing and consider elements of art including color theory, composition, form, value, and line. During this six-week class, participants will learn to paint from life and from the imagined, taking inspiration from artworks on view. The first half of the course will emphasize a classical painting approach after which participants may begin to experiment with more abstract concepts. The class will culminate with a final group critique and showcase of participant work. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is needed!
About Your Instructor
A recent transplant to Georgia, Jaffia Royes is a Visual Artist and art educator who lived and worked in New York City for 17 years. She earned her bachelor's degree in Studio rt with a focus in Painting from Florida State University.
As an educator, Jaffia has worked with various art organizations, museums, and schools. She has taught artists of all ages, including a specialty in portfolio development for artists entering art & design colleges and universities. She also facilitates professional development workshops for visual art educators.
As an artist, her primary medium for over two decades has been oil painting. In addition to painting, Jaffia finds enjoyment in continually expanding her skillset and is currently delving into sculpting, wood carving, and photography.
