Auguste Rodin (French, 1840–1917) is one of the most celebrated sculptors of the modern age, represented in museums and private collections across the globe. However, this was not always the case. From his first sculpture to enter an American museum in 1893 and culminating with his popular revival in the 1980s, Rodin in the United States: Confronting the Modern follows the artist’s rise to eminence in this country due in large part to the collectors, critics, and curators who helped make it happen.

This conversation will explore a selection of works on view in the exhibition, which includes more than 70 sculptures and drawings. We will discuss Rodin’s experimentation with different materials and notable artistic innovations, as well as key moments in his career, both during and after his lifetime. Throughout the conversation you will be invited to look closely, share your thoughts, and ask questions.
