Course Description

Instructor: Wendy Venet

This one-day class focuses on Atlanta's history at a pivotal time:  the Civil War and its immediate aftermath.  It examines the city's transformation from Unionist enclave to Confederate city and the circumstances that led to freedom for Atlanta's enslaved population.  The end of slavery was an important milestone but it
led to limited opportunities for African Americans.
