Course Description

Instructor: Bert Parks

Old trailer parks that seemed to collect all the desperate “loose nuts” of society are a dying breed. Bert owned the oldest trailer park in Atlanta for 18 years from 1984 to 2002, in a high crime area of Atlanta. These stories reveal a fierce struggle for marginal people of all kinds, to survive in a dysfunctional world that became a dumping ground for endless social and criminal problems, as well as a refuge for many decent, warm, admirable people. Many of these true stories are shocking and sad, but often humorous. Bert’s own struggle to survive the overwhelming challenges of this business, often dangerous, and emotionally exhausting, considering how green, naïve, ignorant and unprepared he was, is a story in itself. Bert is currently writing a book about his experience about surviving this bizarre business.
