LOUIS SULLIVAN: The Struggle for American Architecture. Friday, July 15, 11am-2pm
This is the in-person section and includes a pizza lunch, drink, and cookie.
"He was a great architect with little faith in the establishment". He brought " Spirit into Being". He mentored Frank Lloyd Wright. He died in poverty. His manifesto, "form ever follows function" became one of the prevailing tenets of modern architects. He embraced ornament and it became his signature. The details "should not be on the building but of it." He has been called the Father of the Skyscraper.
Using OLLI's large screens this one-day class will feature 3 documentaries and class discussion.
If you have never heard of Louis Sullivan, you will be introduced to a truly remarkable artist. If you know about him these documentaries will add to your knowledge and prove to be a wonderful visual experience.
