Course Description

Instructor: Wendy Venet

 

This 4-week class will examine major turning points in American Women's History, from the time of European contact to the late 20th century.  Topics include women's changing economic role, family life, legal and political rights, race relations, and the impact of wars on women's lives.  This class will include famous women such as Harriet Tubman, Clara Barton, and Margaret Sanger, and less well-known figures including Sarah Hale, Susie King Taylor, and Luisa Moreno.

 

Instructor Bio: Wendy Venet taught 19th Century U.S. History and American Women's History for 40 years, most recently at Georgia State University.  She is the author of Neither Ballots nor Bullets:  Women Abolitionists and the Civil War and A Strong-Minded Woman:  The Life of Mary Livermore, along with three books about Atlanta's Civil War history.
