Course Description
Instructor: Peter Campos
Until Queen Elizabeth II, her great-great-grandmother Victoria was the longest reigning monarch in British history. Her 63-year reign was characterized by massive changes in society that spurred the modernization of Britain and the world. But what was Victoria like? What motivated her? What were her struggles and how did she (and didn’t she) overcome them? This class will examine four phases of Victoria’s life, including her relationships with strong male figures that enthralled her, the massive changes in British society that characterized her era, and an explosive British Empire inspired by her. No prior knowledge of this subject matter is needed.
