2579 - Tales of our Fathers--World Wars
Course Description
Instructor: John Clarke
Many of our fathers were part of “the greatest generation” who served in World War Two. This course will include the experiences of our fathers in the war. Topics include: travels of a merchant ship captain who was sunk twice by German U-boats; a Sherman tank crewman in Normandy; a B-17 crewman who was shot down and served time in a German POW camp; a Sargent who was killed in Germany days before wars end, was buried in Holland, and is honored to this day by local Dutch citizens; a naval officer who was decorated for bravery helping save fellow crewmen; and a Sargent who served Patton’s army with the Corps of Engineers at the Battle of the Bulge. A questioner will be sent to class participants to learn of their father’s experience in the war, to be summarized in a class session.
