2564 - Meditation Practice
Course Description
Instructor: Peter Campos
This class meets on Friday December 3rd and then, twice a week for two weeks in December; you will be registering for a Monday and Friday class each week. (Dec 3, 6, 10, 13, 17) 10-11am.
This will be a “hands-on” class in which we will learn and practice meditation. We will focus on sitting meditation and we will also explore walking and standing methods. The primary approach will be “calm, abiding” meditation, but other applications, such as insight and focused meditation, compassion cultivation, and mindfulness practices will also be introduced. These techniques are based in the rich tradition of Buddhist philosophy and some basic teachings that accompany meditation in that tradition will be explored in a non-sectarian and secular manner (e.g., impermanence, mindfulness, quieting the always-busy mind, etc. can be understood within religious or non-religious perspectives). Whether you are a novice who has never, or rarely, meditated, or a skilled practitioner of many years, please join us for an hour twice a week.
