2562 - Psychotherapy Portrayed in Film and TV
Course Description
Instructor: Rhonda Findling
In this class we will watch 2 films and 2 TV show episodes that involve a psychotherapist and their patient. We will discuss our thoughts, feelings and general reaction to the psychotherapy relationship and the way it’s portrayed cinematically.
For the first class, class members will need to watch the film Ordinary People directed by Robert Redford
and the TV show In Treatment Season One Episode One -Laura
For the second class, class members will need to watch Prince of Tides directed by Barbra Streisand
and In Treatment Season One Episode Five- Gina
Each film or episode is available to watch online, please check to see your options, you may need to purchase each if you do not have a subscription that offers the films for free.
Instructor Bio: Rhonda is a psychotherapist and author of several self help pop psychology books including "Don't Call That Man! A Survival Guide To Letting Go (Hyperion)" which has been translated into 8 languages. Her short film "La Vie En Rhonda" is a selected film and being screened at 4 film festivals in 2021 including the Peachtree Village International Film Festival.
