2554 - Unique Styles of Artists
Course Description
Instructor: George deMan
Many artists had, and some today have, uniquely identifiable styles of expression, or special subject interests, color palettes, "atmospheres": Turner, Whistler, Cezanne, van Gogh, Gaugin, Matisse, Picasso (many many styles and periods), Pollack, Rothko, Frankenthaler, Calder, David Smith, to name a few we will discuss. Some invented their styles outright, had no mentors or precedents - - many had no successful emulators. Copyists and forgers yes of course. The course will attempt to acquaint you with the stylistic differences, make them memorable. In any case you will enjoy a flood of visual stimuli.
