Course Description
Instructor: Michael McDavid
Starts: Thursday, October 7, 7 weeks
Time: 11:15AM-12:45PM
The country house or stately home is synonymous with the British upper class and the role that group has played in the country’s history. Hundreds of these stately homes dot the landscape and reflect the personalities and times of the families who created them. In this course we will look at a different house each week and use each to demonstrate architectural and landscaping evolution, interior design, the lives of the staff who served the family, and the role the houses played in the politics and history of the United Kingdom. With each house we will also look at some of the members of the eminent families who lived there.
