Instructor: Laurel Humble - Head of Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning at the High Museum of Art

Alexander Calder and Pablo Picasso are two of the foremost figures in the history of twentieth-century art. Conceived by the artists’ grandsons, Bernard Ruiz-Picasso and Alexander S. C. Rower, Calder – Picasso brings together more than one hundred paintings, sculptures and works on paper that center on the artists’ exploration of the void, or absence of space. This conversation will explore a selection of works on view in the exhibition, providing examples of key moments in each artist’s career, artistic innovations, and insightful juxtapositions of their works, and inviting you to look closely, share your thoughts and ask questions.

Laurel Humble is Head of Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning at the High Museum of Art, where she oversees education programming and outreach to older adult audiences. Prior to joining the High she worked as Associate Educator at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Laurel holds a BA in art history from the University of Georgia and an MA in urban education from the Graduate Center, City University of New York.
