Course Description
Instructors: Amy Stern, LCSW and Heather Hawkins-Esther, LCSW
During this 8-week course, we will be working to develop the following skills: an ability to tolerate rather than avoid difficult feelings, memories, or situations; a greater understanding of how our mind works and why we feel what we feel; an accepting, non-condemning, non-submissive orientation toward others and ourselves; focusing attention on what is helpful and maintaining a balanced perspective; and an increased ability to turn the motivation to be caring toward ourselves. We will begin with introductions and highlight research detailing the benefits of practicing mindfulness and self-compassion. There will be a variety of in-class meditative exercises. Our intention is that these experiential practices will empower and inspire you to continue to deliberately cultivating compassion for yourself as well as enhances your well-being.
