Spearkers: Gabrielle Mahesh - Academic Administrator, Shanti Bhavan Children's Project
Hannah Moon - Manager of Volunteer Services, Shanti Bhavan Children's Project

There is a small school in the middle of rural India that is working hard to tackle the generational effects of the caste system. This school, Shanti Bhavan Children’s Project, educates children from the Dalit caste (India’s lowest socioeconomic class) and empowers their students to break the cycle of poverty. This presentation will highlight the work of Shanti Bhavan and draw attention to the ways that caste continues to impact the lives of Indian children as well as Indian Americans. Join us to learn more about the groundbreaking work of Shanti Bhavan and explore how caste is still relevant today in systems of oppression throughout India and the US.
