Course Description

Join OLLI at Emory for our docent lead virtual tour of The Cowboy in Art Exhibit at the Booth Western Art Museum. This tour will start in Enduring Traditions Gallery and talk about the two earliest and most influential artists that painted and sculpt the era of the early West, Charles M. Russell and Fredrick Remington. Then we will go to the Colliding Cultures Gallery where we will talk about the diversity of people that followed the frontier livelihoods. In the Cowboy Gallery we will talk about the founding of the Cowboy Artists of America and its continued influence on Western Art. Finally in the Modern West we will see the way some artists chose impressionistic or abstract ways rather than realism in painting the cowboy.
