This course will examine the major campaigns and battles of the Civil War in the Western Theater (i.e. that region between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River) from the beginning of 1863 through the end of the war. Some of the topics covered will be the Vicksburg campaign, the Tullahoma Campaign, the Battle of Chickamauga, the campaign for Chattanooga, the Atlanta Campaign, the Battle for Mobile Bay, Hood’s 1864 Nashville Campaign, Sherman’s marches through Georgia and the Carolinas, and the Battle of Bentonville.
