Course Description

Join OLLI at Emory for our docent lead virtual tour of The American Presidents Exhibit at the Booth Western Art Museum. Beginning with George Washington the Booth Museum President’s Gallery has individual display cases that feature a painting or later a photograph of every person who has served as US president. Also featured is a hand signed letter written by that president. Some history and trivia is also included. A few cases display pins, clothing, peace medals, and other items connected to the presidents. We will look at some of the letters that are humorous, interesting, or historically important. The President Lincoln letter deals with the largest American Indian Uprising and the single largest group hanging that followed the fighting. We will look at Steve Penley’s painting of Theodore Roosevelt’s Rough Riders in Cuba and Ross Rosen’s three monumental size paintings of all the presidents.
