Course Description

We will use visuals and power points with commentary as we study life in the Roman world. Video clips and photos will be used to enhance the presentations. Class discussions are encouraged. Our study will include the art and architecture in the Roman and early Christian world. Edward Gibbons, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is one of my major resources as well as readings from JSTOR. We will discuss daily Roman daily life and the influence of the government on the lives of the people. We will look at the spread of the Roman world into Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The course will also include Latin derivatives and Latin phrases used in English. We will make comparisons between the Roman world and our world today.
