Course Description

How well do we 'really' appreciate the power of language, the momentous, even potentially apocalyptic role that “mere words� play in our lives? And the profound role keywords and missing keywords have on our thinking, values, hopes, and fears? Those we allow to frame public discourse not only colonize our minds, but put our very lives in peril. We will discuss/debate such keywords as entitlement, patriotism, appeasement, revisionist, human nature, normalize, American values, national interest, crime, politicize, rogue nation, objectivity, regulations, terrorism, democracy, post-racial, etc., and many others you too think need to be challenged and perhaps replaced.
