Course Description
Instructor: Caroline Miklosovic
We will read Euripides plays The Trojan Women and The Bacchae. The texts can be found on Amazon. The Titles are Euripides III and Euripides V edited by Richmond Lattimore. They are both black. It is important that participants purchase these books because various translations differ. I will present questions the class to consider as we read. There will be slide presentations illustrating art and music based on the plays, as well as character analyses and maps indicating locations mentioned in the plays. I will also provide information on the historical context and the life of Euripides. The times of the class may be 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour.
I will provide historical background, share pertinent discussion questions, and discuss all areas of the arts associated with the dramatic elements of the plays. There will be video clips of the plays and PowerPoints, which will address geographical and historical references as well as specific vocabulary associated with the plays.
