Course Description
Instructors: Jack Carew and Charles Maddrey
Great Decisions includes eight foreign policy issues confronting the United States. If wisely managed by our next President, they will promote world peace and prosperity. Lectures will concentrate on wise management. (1) Keeping Europe united in spite of Brexit. (2) Passing the Trans-Pacific Partnership (80% of the world’s purchasing power is outside the United States.) (3) U.S. opposition to China dominating the South China Sea is futile in the long run. (4) Helping Saudi Arabia adjust to the reality of oil. (5) Managing the petroleum surpluses. (6) So goes Brazil, goes South America; we have to care. (7) The solution to Afghanistan and Pakistan lies in India; not the United States. (8) Nuclear security is threatened by three countries: North Korea, Iran, and Pakistan.
