Course Description
Instructor: Dan Zins, PhD
In reading Rick Shenkman’s Political Animals: How Our Stone-Age Brain Gets in the Way of Smart Politics, this course will explore how our pre-wired brains are now a major hindrance to achieving the kinds of foreign and domestic policies that would serve us well and honor American ideals. Shenkman not only helps us to understand how we have arrived at our perilous post-truth age, but insists that “solutions are at our fingertips if only we grasp them. Considerable attention will be given to these solutions, and to his two chapters on empathy and the limits of empathy.
Dan taught in the liberal arts department at Atlanta College of Art.
