Course Description
Instructor: Michael McDavidThe English monarchy is the oldest in Europe. Much of England’s history has revolved around its rulers, their successes, follies, and failures. Since the end of the 9th century, seven dynasties have held sway over the island. In this course we will examine the lives of 3 individuals who set out to gain the English throne by conquest and establish or re-establish new ruling dynasties. During each session we will look at the conditions that brought about dynastic change and the personalities of the men who risked their lives to gain fame, fortune, and a royal crown. Individuals to be covered include William the Conqueror, Henry Tudor, and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
