Course Description

Instructor: Charlie Richards, JD

Although this is a continuation course, it is a stand-alone course, so Part One is not a prerequisite. In this course we will study the major Civil War battles in the Eastern Theater from June of 1863 until the surrender of Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia in April, 1865. Topics will include Brandy Station, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, the Overland Campaign, the Siege of Petersburg, and the Confederate retreat to Appomattox. We will also study the contribution of the Union navy, and the growing role of African-American soldiers in Union armies in the fight for their own emancipation.
