Course Description

Instructor: Pam Noud

Come explore these 7 nations of Central Europe: Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia. We will begin on the Baltic Sea, in Poland’s historic seaport of Gdańsk, and travel southward to end in Croatia's red-roofed city of Dubrovnik, on the Adriatic Sea. This course is a Geography–based slide show: You will “tour these 7 countries by viewing maps & photographs. See the baroque statues lining Charles Bridge in Prague, stroll the vast gardens of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, and “take the waters in a thermal bath in Budapest! Along the way, you will learn some Geography and History basics, such as: Where was Prussia? Which 4 of these 7 countries were part of the Eastern Bloc? Which 2 were part of Yugoslavia? Where are the regions of Bohemia, Istria, and Dalmatia? Where are these cities: Krakow? Salzburg? Zagreb? And where does the Danube River flow? Explore foods like knishes, pierogies, and kolaches... And admire the accomplishments of notables like Chopin, Kafka, Freud, Klimt, and Mozart. A set of optional home-study handouts will be available for purchase of $30.
