This lecture by Diana is the story of her and her family’s exile to Mexico during the “ McCarthy Era Communist scares�. It a story she and many others lived, and recounts in her book. She spent 8 years interviewing family members who were members of this exile group. This is a little know but fascinating piece of U.S. History.


Diana Anhalt resided in Mexico City, MX for sixty years, but some ten years ago she and her husband Mauricio moved to Atlanta in order to be closer to family. She is the author of A Gathering of Fugitives: American Political Expatriates in Mexico 1947-1965 (Archer Books), which was subsequently translated into Spanish, and five short poetry collections, among them �Because There is No Return,� and “Lives of Straw.� Her most recent, “Walking Backward,� was poetry finalist for the Georgia Author of the Year Award. Her essays, newspaper articles, short stories and book reviews in both English and Spanish have been published in both Mexico and the United States.
