Course Description
This course is an elective in the Paralegal Certificate but may also be taken as a standalone course. This course is offered once per year.This class focuses on the legal system surrounding civil wrongs that do not arise from contractual relationships.

Learner Outcomes
After this class, you will be able to:- Recognize the elements of intentional torts (e.g. trespass, false imprisonment, assault and battery, etc.)
- Recall the elements of negligence and their applications (e.g. automobile accidents, slip and falls)
- Distinguish the elements of defamation (libel and slander) and the different torts involving privacy rights
- Understand the concept of strict liability and its application
- Comprehend the different causes of action for product liability cases
- Identify and apply defenses to torts
