Course Description

Instructor: Pen Sherwood

You probably have some beloved garments that you have cherished for years—a precious gift from someone or a sentimental piece that brings back fond memories. Old garments offer comfort, familiarity, and a sense of personal style. Nothing lasts forever, but we can prolong the joy a little longer, save something from the landfill, or simply give an old garment a little “face-lift.”

In this class, participants will learn how to use simple embroidery stitches and a little imagination to mend beloved old clothes. You’ll demonstrate how to embrace a tear and transform it from a scar into a symbol of resilience, time, and art—all while enjoying the relaxation and fun that comes with creating by hand.

Participants will discover how to create their own one-of-a-kind wearable art, using their own two hands, a vision, a needle, and a few stitches to give new life to a well-worn shirt, jacket, or other treasured garment.  You can bring a piece of clothing you would like to resurrect to think of ideas.  We will practice on other square pieces of material.
