3811 - Basic drawing for Beginners (JP Khoshbin)
Course Description
Instructor: JP Khoshbin
This 3 day, 2 hrs. per day workshop will explore the basics of drawing and the understanding of shade, shadows, light on objects.
We will explore perspective and the basic techniques in pencil sketching using Graphite pencils.
The workshop will also explore the way to show a three-dimensional images on a two-dimensional picture plane by using shades, and shadows
Supplies Needed:
• Drawing Pad 80 lb 18" X 24" or 14" X 17"
• Graphite Drawing Pencils that range from H to 9B
• Blending Stumps
• Kneaded Erasers and pencil sharpener
Bio: J.P. has been sketching and painting since he was first able to hold a pencil and a brush. He took his passion for art and design to school and became a registered architect, designing everything from homes to laboratory spaces. He has taught design workshops at various universities and institutions both in the US and internationally.
Having lived in the DC metropolitan area most of his life, he exhibited and sold his paintings and artwork at numerous spaces there, including the NIH Clinical Center Art Gallery in Rockville, Maryland. He has also been juried and exhibited by a group of national and international artists at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia.
Although he has worked with oil, acrylic and other media, he is fascinated by the freedom and looseness that watercolor offers as a medium. He is intrigued by the "let's see what happens" element when he works with watercolor.
J.P. recently retired from the National Cancer Institute where he worked as the Director of Space and Facilities. He and his wife moved to Decatur last year to be closer to his family and grandchildren.
