Course Description

Instructor: Colin Mackey

"In Part II we will explore many of the early American films of Alfred Hitchcock. During this time as he wrestled for more control of his own productions, his subject matter took an introspective turn, where the conflicts are equal parts man vs. man and man vs. self reflecting the tumultuous era of a world at war. We will focus on placing each Hitchcock film both in its relevance in his own career, its influence in the history of cinema, and as a reflection of the time in which it was made. The films covered this session will be Saboteur, Shadow of a Doubt, Lifeboat, Spellbound, Notorious, The Paradine Case, and Rope.

This class is part two of a planned four-part series. You do not have to have taken Part I to join this course, although there might be the occasional reference to the films we studied in Part I."
