The French Revolution was a period of significant political and social upheaval in France from 1789 to 1799, marked by the overthrow of the monarchy, the establishment of a republic, and radical changes in society. It was driven by economic hardship, social inequality, and Enlightenment ideals, leading to events like the storming of the Bastille and the Reign of Terror. This class is designed to be a brief overview with the goal of encouraging deeper study by the class participants.
Col (Ret) Lawrence H. Saul served for a total of 37 years in the U.S. Army, with more than 20 of those years overseas. His service included tours in Germany, Holland, Belgium, England, Kosovo, and many other locations. He was one of the last veterans of the Vietnam War still serving on active duty when he retired in 2008. He holds a BA in U.S. History from Georgia State University and two Master’s degrees.
