Course Description
Instructor: John Bayne
Operettas--the term is diminutive and a bit disparaging--are (usually) comic works with spoken dialog. This Zoom course will discuss the most famous and popular operettas by composers including Franz Lehar, Arthur S. Sullivan, Sigmund Romberg, and Leonard Bernstein. Each class will feature music videos.
Bio: John Bayne has attended hundreds of opera performances, starting with Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg at the Atlanta Civic Center in 1976, by the Metropolitan Opera on tour. He is a Tennessee native and Clemson alumnus, and he has lived in Atlanta since 1995. He has taught OLLI classes since 2021.
