3648 - The Joyspan Project: Finding Genuine Joy in Retirement (June Converse, Sally Marcus)
Course Description
Instructor: June Converse and Sally Marcus
Retirement isn’t the end of something — it’s the beginning of one of life’s richest chapters. What about building a life beyond money and good health? These years can — and should — be filled with growth, creativity, new experiences, fresh connections, and most of all… genuine joy. In this class, we will look at the evidence supporting a joyful life but mostly this is a class of ACTION, of experimenting with ideas to find ways that fill your joy buckets. It’s a call to challenge yourself to explore, grow, create, learn, connect and be joyful for a lifetime. NOTE: After each class, we invite you to bring a lunch and enjoy making connections in a variety of ways.
Bio for June Converse: A native Atlantan, June Converse received her bachelor’s degree in business from Shorter College and then started her adult life in healthcare consulting. After receiving her teaching certification at Mercer University/Atlanta, she worked as an educator in both the public and private sector. She retired from teaching in 2012 and started her writing career. A lifelong love of learning, she has spent untold hours studying the craft of novel writing. With her first and second novels finished, she realized she missed the classroom. Using her new knowledge of the craft of writing, she developed a class that seeks to prove that often the best novels are formulaic – that classroom theory does translate to real world application.
Bio for Sally Marcus: Sally Marcus retired after 36 years in private pediatrics at the end of covid, after a career that included being medical director of Kids Health First, a pediatric Independent Practice Association and multiple Atlanta Top Doc awards. She set about infusing her next chapter with curiosity, joy and lots of experiments and saying yes to opportunities that include pickleball, horseback riding, travel, volunteering and now teaching. She is devoted to lifelong learning and squeezing all the “juice” out of this phase of life.
