3518 - A Look Inside the Movies Pt 2 (Mark Randle)
Course Description
Instructor: Mark Randle
Step beyond the screen and discover what really makes movies and television shows come to life. This engaging course offers an insider’s look at the many elements that shape a production—from the stars and directors to the often-overlooked behind-the-scenes heroes: lighting designers, camera operators, wardrobe stylists, prop masters, and background actors. You’ll explore how all of these contributors work together to create the world’s we see on screen.
In Part 2, we’ll turn our lens toward four dynamic genres: Comedy, Sci-Fi, Action, and Western. Using hand-selected films from the instructor’s personal library, we’ll break down key scenes to examine how they were filmed and constructed. Are continuity protocols being followed? Have any of the production "walls"—including the elusive 4th wall—been broken? Can you spot costume inconsistencies or background errors?
Each session includes viewing followed by lively group discussion focused on what we noticed, what worked, what didn’t, and how our observations can deepen our appreciation for film and TV. Whether you're a casual viewer or a dedicated cinephile, you'll come away with a fresh perspective and sharper eye for the details that make storytelling on screen truly shine.
