Course Description
Instructor: Steven Harbour
This course will explore the recent changes in college sports under which colleges and universities can compensate college athletes. The course is divided into four sessions. 1. A review of the recent NCAA antitrust settlement (known as the House settlement) which sets up the framework for college sports and compensation. 2. Issues not resolved in the House settlement, including collective bargaining of college athletes and differing payment levels for men and women athletes. 3. An overview of the regulation of payments for the use of college athletes’ name, image, and likeness. 4. Proposed Congressional action and a guess on what the future of college sports and compensation will look like.
Bio: Harbour, Steven: Steven received his law degree from Columbia University. After private litigation law practice at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City, Steven joined The Coca-Cola Company, where he provided antitrust advice and managed complex commercial litigation. While at Coca-Cola, he also served in various business capacities, including Director of Business Planning and Vice President of Business Development for Coca-Cola of New York. Steven later served as General Counsel for OHM Corporation, a New York Stock Exchange-listed international engineering and environmental firm. He is presently of counsel of the law firm of Anderson Dailey LLP.
