3495 - American Landscape Painting: 1900-Present (Bill Fletcher)
Course Description
Instructor: Bill Fletcher
From waves pounding on rocky shores to majestic mountains, from the verdant fields of bucolic farmsteads to welcoming village houses, and to towering skyscrapers and the vibrant life of the city, from gardens and parks to smoky monuments of industry, from lonesome roads to mighty bridges, these are some of the scenes of American landscapes we will see.
We will note the different styles—realist, impressionist, expressionist, abstract, and more-- as we examine these different topics. We will note the different choices artists make as they bring their visions to canvas or paper—what and what not to include, point of view, what kind of light, color scheme, and more. Appropriate historical notes will be made where relevant. The final meeting will include an epilogue and an opportunity for participants to see more works by their favorite artists.
