Course Description
Instructor: Gerald Flinchum and Mark Randle
Sometimes you'll hear a favorite song, and it blows the original one out of the water or serves as a satisfactory companion. Other times you hear what you think is the original song and discover that it's the cover for the original song or artist. There might be more original songs than there are cover songs. The list is endless. This course will feature many familiar popular songs, bands & artists, then delve into the original version and its music history. Come to class not only learn, but to be entertained!
Bio: Gerald W. Flinchum lives in the outer perimeter of Woodstock, Georgia. An Army veteran; including a tour in Vietnam in 1971-1972, with service in the Georgia Army National Guard and Army Reserves. Leaving the service in 1988, I completed a 27-year tour with the telephone company and a two-year contract with IBM. A graduate of Dekalb College Dunwoody, Georgia (1996). Since 2017, I was a History Instructor at Kennesaw State University, College of Professional & Graduate Studies-OLLI Dept, and in 2019, an Instructor at Emory University’s-Adult Education OLLI program. Teaching a wide range of Twenty-one history-related courses. I am an active author and lecturer that includes history books, projects, and research. His published writings, in magazine format can be viewed on Amazon KDP.
Bio: Mark Randle: Native Georgian grew up in Decatur. Typical education from HS-through courses at Chattahoochee Tech in Graphic Design. Currently the Audio/Visual Technician for the Cobb County Civil War Roundtable. Interests include music, ( a loud guitar player, not great, just loud). Movie and TV buff.
History nerd too especially in the American Civil War on thru the western expansion. Now retired, work as a part-time actor (background & occasional video short). Involved in reenactment as well. (Western & Civil War)
