The Warehouse is a contemporary art space located in Atlanta’s growing Westside District. The building exhibits the private collection of the Susan Wieland Trust, a promised gift to the Wieland Warehouse Art Foundation.
In 2010, the Wielands purchased a 37,000 square-foot furniture warehouse, remodeling it into galleries, storage, and administrative offices to bring their collection under one roof. In 2023, the building underwent a significant expansion and renovation in anticipation of its opening to the public in 2024.
John Wieland’s career in residential development and construction – as founder and chairman of John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods, one of the Southeast’s leading homebuilding companies – ignited another passion: contemporary art. Sue and John Wieland began collecting art in the 1980s and within a few short years their expanding collection focused principally on house and home. Its themes include domesticity, memory, fantasy, history, the land, real estate, architecture, and the creative process.
More than 400 objects by nearly 300 national and international artists date from the 1970s through the present and represent works in nearly all media: painting, photography, works on paper, sculpture, installation art, ceramics, textile art, and video/film. In 2016, Homeward, a monograph of the collection was published. A second publication, The Warehouse: Selected Acquisitions 2016 – 2024, showcases more recent additions.
The Warehouse is located at 1643 Chattahoochee Avenue NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. Free onsite parking is available.
