Course Description

Instructor: Clive Gillon

Britain 102 explores the history of the British Isles from around 1150 to 1900 AD, covering key events from the rise of the Angevin Empire to the period just before World War I. Topics include the major royal dynasties (such as the Plantagenets, Tudors, Stuarts, and Hanovers), the expansion and impact of the British Empire, emigration trends, and the transformative effects of the Industrial Revolution. The course will utilize PowerPoint presentations and videos, and the instructor will focus on broader historical trends, aiming to minimize emphasis on memorizing kings and battles.
