Presenter: Dr. Hal Raper
Dr. Hal Raper grew up in Warm Springs GA. His parents worked at the Geogia Warm Springs Foundation which is the treatment center for polio founded by Franklin D. Roosevelt. His father was the internist for the Foundation and his mother a physical therapist. This presentation will be centered around FDR’s disability and how he managed to hide it using techniques he perfected at Warm Springs. It will include how he came to Warm Springs, plus a demonstration of FDR’s “Political Walk”. Finally, it will include Dr. Raper’s personal childhood memories of Roosevelt as well as a special enactment of this great president.
Bio: Dr. Raper is the Vice Chairman of FDR’s Little White House Advisory Committee. He also volunteers at the Atlanta History Center as the docent on the Civil War Locomotive, TEXAS. He has done FDR presentations for over 10 years, even doing one steaming through NY harbor. Dr. Raper graduated from Emory University and Emory Dental School. He is a Captain, US Navy, Retired.
