Course Description

For over 1400 years, Islamic Culture has made a significant contribution to the world of art and architecture. From the Dome of the Rock through the Cordoba Mosque in Spain to the Taj Mahal in India and from beautiful miniature paintings to various calligraphy styles, from Ibn Khaldun to Rumi, it has excited historians and common people alike. All this compels one to examine the contribution of Islamic art and culture to world civilization. This survey course is an attempt to introduce the creative world of Islamic culture through some of the significant landmarks of art, architecture, paintings, and calligraphy over the centuries.

 

 

Bio:Sayyid Tirmizi (M.A., M.B.A., Ph.D.) is a former Associate and Adjunct Professor. Sayyid has taught both in the US and abroad. He specializes in South Asian Art, culture, and religion, as well as Islamic art history and culture. He has taught at the University of Tulane at the School of Continuing Education, both at the New Orleans and MS campuses at the City College in New York, OLLI at Rutgers and Emory
