OLLI at Emory Special Interest Group: All Things British

Organizing members: Peter Campos; Susan McBrayer; Michael McDavid

Purpose: To bring together OLLI members to share their love of everything British

Members: Any member of OLLI

Meetings: Initial meeting in June; then bimonthly at OLLI (at present, not Hyflex)

Examples of activities include, but are not limited to:

• Get-together to discuss topics of interest, brief presentations, play games, just socialize
• Learn about the different regions of the United Kingdom
• Host traditional English teas for OLLI
• Watch and discuss British movies or TV shows
• Share tips about travel to the British Isles
• Exchange British recipes or feature a cooking class (is Gordon Ramsey an OLLI member?)
• Meet at a British pub for drinks
• British songs sing-along
• Celebrate King Charles III’s birthday. other Royal events, the Trooping of the Colour, etc.

We will discuss and plan events for the remainder of this year at our inaugural June meeting. We will also decide on organizational issues at that time, including:

• Should we offer a Zoom option?
• How long should meetings at OLLI be, how frequently, and when?
• Guest speakers or special community-based events?
• Topics for short presentations or discussion sessions?
