3047 - The Fundamental Artistry Behind Persian Miniature Painting and More (Bill Fletcher)
Course Description
Instructor: Bill Fletcher
Persian miniature painting is rooted in drawing, serving as the cornerstone of this art form. Renowned collectors have praised the elegance of line, valuing ink drawings as a prized genre. These intricate drawings were often compiled into lavish albums, further adorned with elaborate embellishments. Diverging from painting, drawings showcased unique subjects. Moreover, drawing served as the foundation for embellishments across various genres, including carpets, ceramics, metalwork, and book covers.
Bio: Bill taught German language and literature at Emory for five years. Subsequently he was involved in various city planning activities in Atlanta until 1980, when he formed an award-winning cabinet and furniture design firm with his brother. Retired since 2011, he has since devoted his time to his long-term interests in Chinese furniture and Persian miniatures. Due to constant exposure to the subject during his wife's long career in Art History at Emory, he humorously counts himself as an honorary art historian.
